Yoplait YoPlus Light yogurts

September 18, 2009

If some is good, more is better. General Mills says yogurt lovers now can regulate digestive health without compromising calorie intake or taste. The company's Yoplait line has introduced YoPlus Light, a functional yogurt with just 70 calories per cup.

Three new varieties include Honey Vanilla, Strawberry Banana and Key Lime.

Similar to YoPlus yogurts already available in supermarkets nationwide, General Mills says YoPlus Light contains a special blend of probiotic cultures and a natural dietary fiber -- but now with 36 percent fewer calories. Research shows that the combination of special cultures and fiber in YoPlus helps support digestive health and can help consumers regulate their digestive health when eaten regularly.

"Consuming probiotics regularly, like those in YoPlus Light, is a natural way to help regulate the digestive tract," said Nutrition Scientist, Tamara Schryver PhD, RD of the Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition. "The fiber in each cup helps to enhance the role of probiotics by offering additional digestive health benefits."

In addition to the probiotic culture Bifidobacterium lactis Bb-12, YoPlus Light contains the live and active yogurt cultures L. bulgaricus and S. thermophilus. It is also a good source of calcium, vitamin A and vitamin D.

"YoPlus Light's delicious flavors, smooth and creamy texture, and the added benefit of probiotics make it a win-win option for someone looking for a lower-calorie yogurt with healthful digestive benefits," said Ryan Stalker, associate marketing manager for YoPlus.

New YoPlus Light is available on grocery store shelves nationwide along with popular YoPlus flavors -- Blueberry Acai (asa'i), Blackberry Pomegranate, Strawberry, Vanilla, Cherry and Peach. Suggested retail price is $2.79 per four-pack of 4-ounce cups.
