Peekaboo Organics' ice cream featuring hidden vegetables was named the grand prize winner today of the Real California Milk Snackcelerator dairy snack innovation competition created by the California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB) and VentureFuel. The competition will provide Peekaboo with $200,000 in resources and funding to bring a snack-sized version of their innovative products to market and expand the overall market for their products. This is the second event of its kind by the California dairy industry designed to inspire ideas integrating the values of fluid milk and dairy ingredients into snacks to meet growing consumer demand and providing resources to help bring them to market.
Darigold announced an expansion of its organic pool of Northwest farms and expansion of its broad-based organic capabilities and product offerings. While the company has had organic members for years, and has been processing organic milk and been working with co-pack partners for years, it is now also working directly with B2B customers to produce custom organic ingredients and with retail and foodservice channels to make packaged organic products.

Forager Project, San Francisco, received a minority investment from Danone Manifesto Ventures, New York, to continue building its portfolio of innovative products, enhance sustainable sourcing and production, increase brand awareness and widen distribution.
For example, antibiotic residues were detected in 60% of conventional milk samples and none of the organic samples.

A study conducted by researchers at Emory University, Atlanta, in collaboration with The Organic Center, Washington, D.C., found that a majority of samples of conventional retail milk tested positive for residues of antibiotics – two of which are banned from dairy production -- and used controversial pesticides.
Nearly 5.7% of the food sold in this country is now organic.

The U.S. organic market in 2018 broke through the $50 billion mark for the first time, with sales hitting a record $52.5 billion, up 6.3% from the previous year, according to the “2019 Organic Industry Survey” released by the Organic Trade Association (OTA), Washington, D.C.
