Butterball, LLC and the National Turkey Federation announce the passing of Kerry Curtis Doughty on March 17, 2020, following a brave battle with cancer. Doughty was the immediate past chairman of the National Turkey Federation (NTF) and the president and CEO of Butterball until his departure from the company in December 2018.

Hormel Foods has taken action to protect its global workforce of 20,000 team members and stakeholders during the COVID-19 outbreak. In addition, the company announced its pledge of $1 million in cash and product donations for hunger relief and food insecurity as a result of this crisis.

A person who has tested positive for COVID-19 was on-site at the Georgia World Congress Center during MODEX 2020 (March 9-12). This person was working on-site for a trade show marketing and labor provider from March 4-14. We are told the person tested positive on March 17 and is recovering at this time.

Effective today, Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) is offering a temporary 5% daily discount for senior citizens, through May 5, 2020, in all four banners it operates – Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market and FRESH by Brookshire’s. The discount is available to guests age 60 or older with valid ID.

Nature’s Yoke, one of the oldest co-ops of family farms on the east coast producing organic, pasture-raised and free-range eggs, plans to eliminate post-consumer recycled plastic (rPET) egg cartons in 2020 and replace them with cartons made from 100% post-consumer paper. By eliminating all plastic egg packaging, Nature’s Yoke will reduce the number of plastic cartons used within the egg industry by 4,560,090 cartons annually.

A M King, a fully integrated Design-Build firm, has begun renovation of an existing shell building for Martin’s Distribution Inc., a Charlotte-based food distributor. The new food distribution and storage facility will allow the company to capitalize on growing demand from its customers for fresh, quality products. The project is scheduled to be completed by May 2020.
