Vertical Cold Storage, a developer and operator of temperature controlled distribution centers sponsored by real estate asset manager Platform Ventures, has purchased Lone Star Cold Storage of Richardson, Texas.

Many food and beverage companies seeking to increase capacity in response to consumer-driven success are finding it difficult to quickly bring new facilities online due to current market conditions and continued supply chain disruptions.

The 148,000-square-foot expansion will bring the total facility size to more than 400,000 square feet.

The 298,000-square-foot state-of-the-art cold storage facility is located within the heavy-haul corridor, in close proximity to the Barbours Cut and Bayport container terminals, and with convenient access to the regional interstate highway system and multiple Class 1 railroads.  

Vejii Holdings, which owns and operates the plant-based marketplace ShopVejii.com, has entered into a third-party logistics (3PL) agreement with a cold storage service provider in San Diego, California, expanding its distribution footprint on the West Coast.

At this time last year, we at Refrigerated & Frozen Foods decided to put our annual Foodservice Distributor of the Year Award on hold. The COVID-19 pandemic precipitated unprecedented shutdowns in foodservice—restaurants, hotels, schools, caterers, stadiums, and other volume venues—leaving behind thousands of shuttered businesses. To put it lightly, there was very little to celebrate in foodservice last year.

Groundbreaking has started on Houston ColdPort, a 315,101-square-foot speculative cold storage warehouse in Houston, Texas. Houston ColdPort will feature a 50-foot clear height warehouse, a 60-foot-deep cold dock, 38 dock positions with vertical storing hydraulic dock leveler equipment, LED lighting throughout, a Tyco Quell dry fire sprinkler system, a 200-foot-deep truck court with 57 trailer parking spaces and ample automobile parking. Houston ColdPort can accommodate a single tenant or can be demised for a two-tenant layout.
