In the past year, Square Roots has deployed new, co-located farms on GFS distribution centers in Kenosha, Wisconsin; Springfield, Ohio; and now Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
Produce from the first Square Roots farm co-located with UNFI is intended to serve UNFI's retail customers in Wisconsin and Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro area.
Global Food and Ingredients Ltd. (GFI) announced the opening of its first distribution center in the U.S., located in Clayton, North Carolina, near Raleigh.
Whole Foods Market has expanded its refrigerated distribution center in Cheshire, Connecticut, to support the significant growth of their store development program throughout the North Atlantic and Northeast Regions. As more consumers turned to online grocery shopping, the demand for cold storage space skyrocketed, and the business case for Whole Foods to grow this facility became even more essential.
A M King has begun construction on a distribution center for Mexico-based GAB Operations in Laredo, Texas. The new 45,590-square-foot facility, when complete, will provide increased cold storage capacity for fresh produce and will serve as a hub for the company’s U.S. and Canadian customers. The project is scheduled to be completed in October.
While not a cold-storage warehouse, this is an example of the very latest technology, automation, order picking, logistics efficiencies, and energy-saving equipment that cold chain facilities can incorporate into their own high-volume buildings.
