Uncrustables promo targets mom, snacking

September 28, 2009

It's time to give moms a well-deserved break from after school snack anxiety! A recent survey conducted by MomCentral.com on behalf of The J.M. Smucker Company, Orrville, Ohio., found that 68 percent of moms feel stress or pressure when trying to prepare wholesome after school snacks for their children.

And it's no wonder: moms identified nutritional balance as the most important consideration for snack purchases, yet 43 percent admit they usually serve cookies or chips as after school snacks and almost a third (32 percent) hit the drive-through one or two times a week. To help busy moms, Smucker says it is giving away 80,000 Smucker's® Uncrustables® Sandwiches, which represent "a portable and convenient snack solution."

During the school year moms have a full plate to juggle, from preparing three meals a day to shuttling kids to and from school and activities. Beginning today at www.uncrustables.com, parents can register to receive a coupon for one free box of Smucker's Uncrustables Sandwiches (4-pack; max value: $3.00) when they share one of their time-saving after-school organization tips.

"Even with the incredible dash of after school activities, sports practices, lessons, playdates, volunteering, and work, moms value nutrition and their child's preferences when it comes to snacks," says founder and CEO of MomCentral.com and mother of two, Stacy DeBroff. "Innovative products such as Smucker's Uncrustables Sandwiches offer nutrition, great taste, and on-the-go convenience, so moms who feel pressured to come up with wholesome snacks can give a collective sigh of relief."

"We are excited to offer hard-working parents a chance to take a 'snack break' and offer their children a good-for-you after school snack with a great homemade taste," adds Maribeth Badertscher, Smucker's director of corporate communications. "Our seven varieties of Smucker's Uncrustables Sandwiches are a convenient, satisfying snack solution for the entire family."

MomCentral.com interviewed 1,520 moms nationwide in September 2009. The survey also established that ..

... 84 percent of the moms surveyed have children under the age of 14;

... 85 percent of the moms reported that their kids eat their after school snacks at home, surprising as most kids participate in one to two after-school activities each day;

... moms ranked nutritional balance (39 percent), child's preference (25 percent), and cost (11 percent) as the top three motivators when purchasing after school snacks.

Smucker's Uncrustables Sandwiches are thaw-and-serve, crustless sandwiches available in seven flavors, including three new whole wheat varieties. Uncrustables retail for about $3.00 (four-pack) and are available in seven varieties, including:

    * NEW: Peanut Butter & Grape Jelly Sandwich on Wheat Bread
    * NEW: Peanut Butter & Strawberry Jam Sandwich on Wheat Bread
    * Peanut Butter & Grape Jelly Sandwich
    * Peanut Butter & Strawberry Jam Sandwich
    * Peanut Butter with Honey Spread on Whole Wheat Bread
    * Grilled Cheese
    * Peanut Butter

Consumers can log on to www.uncrustables.com to register for a free coupon and learn more about Smucker's Uncrustables Sandwiches (4-pack: maximum value: $3.00). Offer is valid through October 30, 2009 or while supplies last; a maximum of 20,000 coupons will be awarded. Offer open to individual residents of the United States only, age 18 and older; no PO boxes permitted. Void where prohibited.
