Primus is pleased to announce a recently completed greenfield cold storage warehouse project in Baytown, Texas, has earned LEED Silver certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

RL Cold, leading provider of cold storage real estate solutions, and their tenant Maersk, were eager to earn as many LEED points as possible on the Baytown project. Highlights include:

  • 55 refrigeration plugs to help keep refrigerated trucks cool using electricity instead of burning diesel fuel.
  • Indoor and outdoor water use reduction efforts.
  • Enhanced commissioning.
  • Optimized energy performance.
  • Enhanced indoor air quality.

These efforts and more, including a 1 megawatt rooftop solar array, have been implemented on RL Cold/Maersk’s subsequent project, which is nearing completion in Ridgeville, South Carolina. That project is on track to achieve LEED Gold.

Since the USGBC modified its LEED scorecard to reflect the specific needs of the industrial sector, more cold storage companies have embraced sustainable design and construction practices.
