Marina Mayer, editor-in-chief of Refrigerated & Frozen Foods and the creator of the Readers’ Choice Best New Retail Products contest, talked exclusively with Alon Ozery, co-founder, to discuss more in-depth about the contest, the “winning” product and what’s in store for the future.

Refrigerated & Frozen Foods: First off, congratulations on being named one of Refrigerated & Frozen Foods’ Top 5 Readers’ Choice winners in 2015. What does this recognition mean to you, your company and its products?

Alon Ozery: Thank you very much for the recognition. We are very excited that our Morning Rounds were nominated as Top 5 Reader’s choice awards. This recognition means that we are in the right direction with development. It means that people care about what they eat, the flavors and the use of natural ingredients in our products.

Refrigerated & Frozen Foods: Your new retail product—Frozen Breakfast Breads—placed No. 4 with 228 votes. What features does this new product hold that would allow it to even be nominated?

Ozery: Our Morning Rounds are a great morning grab-and-go breakfast option that is tasty and made with wholesome ingredients.

Refrigerated & Frozen Foods: How did you go about accruing so many votes? What was your plan?

Ozery: We are active on social media with many of our customers. They were happy to share their enthusiasm for our company and Morning Round Fruit and Grain flat buns.

Refrigerated & Frozen Foods: What goes into developing a new product?

Ozery: We invest time and energy into developing new products. Our goal is to launch a new family of products per year in addition to looking to improve existing products and adding new flavors.

Refrigerated & Frozen Foods: Any unique features to the product’s packaging?

Ozery: Our Morning Rounds have resealable packaging. Because they are all-natural, we recommend they be kept in the freezer.

Refrigerated & Frozen Foods: What is on the horizon for your company?

Ozery: Our goal is to be a leader in the natural/tasty baked good category in North America. We are not looking to be the biggest, just to be the best at what we do.
