Technology Showcase: Belts & Conveyors

By Michael Costa
Leeson Electric water-resistant conveyor motor
March 26, 2020

WATER-RESISTANT CONVEYOR MOTOR

A gearmotor is combination of an electric motor and a gearbox. This makes it a simple, pragmatic solution for high-torque, low-speed applications such as conveyor belts because it combines a motor with a gear reducer system. Gearmotors provide a highly compatible electric motor and gearhead, helping to attain ideal energy efficiency in addition to prolonging equipment life. The Leeson P240 Series - SUB-FHP - IP55 AC Washguard Gearmotor is designed for extended life in applications requiring regular washdown or otherwise wet environments. Permanently sealed with an application of high-quality paint assures consistently tough, water-tight, and chemically-resistant units. Featuring white epoxy-painted motors that prevent rust, and hardened worm-type gearing that is a pragmatic solution for high-torque, low-speed applications like conveyor belts in food processing plants. Output shafts have needle bearings for high load capacities and its interior components are protected against corrosion.

QUICK-RELEASE CONVEYORS

metal detector

The modular design of the Mettler-Toledo Profile Advantage metal detector allows for easier, more efficient cleaning, minimizing risk for food manufacturers. Elements such as the quick release mechanism means conveyor belts can be removed in under ten minutes, and the tubular, open-frame design and sloping surfaces of the metal detector case minimize dirt traps. Every detail of the conveyorized system is designed to protect operators during production and support safe maintenance practices. Guards are manufactured from clear, shatter-proof material without sharp edges, while guarded in-feed and out-feed rollers remove the risk of finger traps. The modular design leads to a reduction in spare parts inventory required for manufacturers with systems installed on multiple lines because common parts can be used across multiple systems, and modifications in the field can be completed without the need for drilling, welding or cutting.

POWER FOUR CONVEYOR CURVES ON A SINGLE MOTOR

V2 Curve Conveyor chain

Dorner’s AquaGard 7350 V2 Curve Conveyor chain features a center bearing to eliminate friction, carry a heavier load and allow four curves to be driven by a single motor. This unique design improves productivity, along with saving valuable floor space as the conveyor can make tight turns around existing machinery and equipment without being hindered by extra motors. The AquaGard sanitary conveyor platform is designed for the baking, snack food, pharmaceutical, pet food and packaging industries that require wipe-down and occasional wash-down cleanings of the conveyor with non-caustic solutions. The conveyor comes with minimal horizontal surfaces for fast, easy cleaning. These hygienic standards have enabled AquaGard conveyors to earn industry recognition for their sanitary attributes, including the Baking Industry Sanitation Standards Committee (BISSC), and 3-A Sanitary Standards Inc., which offer certifications and stamps of approvals on conveyors and related food-processing equipment.

FLOW WRAPPER FOR FRESH POULTRY AND MEAT PACKING

Harpak-ULMA FS-400 Flow Wrapper

The Harpak-ULMA FS-400 Flow Wrapper was conceived specifically for the fresh poultry and meat packaging market segment. The FS-400 produces cost-effective packaging for raw food products that often vary in both size and shape. It represents a new alternative to formerly patented packaging technologies designed to produce leak-proof trayed products, optimized for attractive retail presentation. The FS-400 employs a modern cantilever design that allows easy access to all components of the infeed conveyor, sealing rollers, and cross sealing assemblies. This simplified sanitary design also employs a single mechanical cabinet for motors and drive components, as well as a single electrical cabinet. Indexing conveyors also utilize a sanitary design that allows for belt removal and facilitates access to the entire infeed frame without tools.
