X-Ray & Metal Detection Systems

September 6, 2013

THERMAL SHOCK-RESISTANT METAL DETECTOR

The Thermo Fisher APEX HD washdown metal detector is designed to withstand extreme temperature cycling, up to 150°F, several times a day. This thermal, shock-resistant metal detector has a projected operating life of 10-plus years and utilizes a new case design and a proprietary aperture filling technique for additional robustness and stability. The control panel also has a one-way vent allowing any trapped humidity to escape.

X-RAY INSPECTION SYSTEM WITH HIGH-SENSITIVITY DETECTION

The new METTLER TOLEDO Safeline X33 series x-ray systems use a single vertical x-ray beam and new high-sensitivity detector technology that allows the integration of a low power (20W) x-ray generator. With an improved user experience, sustainability credentials and highly functional design, the X33 series system provides the tools to assist companies in complying with industry standards such as HACCP. Ideally suited to the inspection of small- and medium-sized packaged products, the X33 series system offers foreign body detection and performs gross mass measurement for calculated portion control, ensuring product integrity.

POULTRY BONE DETECTION TECHNOLOGY

Anritsu’s DualX x-ray inspection system is specifically designed to detect smaller poultry bones, including lower-density fan bones, calcified bone fragments as small as 2.0 mm and glass, stone, rubber and metal as small as 0.7 mm. Two x-ray signals simultaneously distinguish between each poultry product and their contaminants, while the dual-energy technology yields fewer false rejects, offers proven superior performance and assures poultry packers and processors a higher degree of detection. Plus, it can process more than 16,000 pounds of product per hour.

QUICK SHIP METAL DETECTOR CONVEYOR SYSTEM

E-Z Tec DSP metal detector conveyor systems from Eriez offer unmatched protection against ferrous and nonferrous metal contamination. These state-of-the-art units come with variable speed control, a food-grade polypropylene (plastic chain) belt, stop belt reject and combination beacon and horn. Each system also includes a continuously welded series 304 stainless-steel frame, washdown drive and UHMW slider bed. The conveyor electronics are housed within a NEMA 4X enclosure with start/stop switch for both the metal detector and conveyor. The entire system is supported by adjustable articulated foot pads.

MEETING HIGH-PRESSURE WASHDOWN REQUIREMENTS

S+S Inspection’s GHF metal detector meets the arduous protection requirements of high-pressure washdown. The detector head features an integral full-color touchscreen control unit designed to make it easy to set up and report back on line conditions that could affect the integrity of the inspection system. In addition, these detection systems can be equipped with monitoring technology that detects failures in use from operational issues during production, such as line blockage, reject bins becoming full, low reject air pressure, etc. With a full diagnostic log, the GHF provides immediate feedback to indicate the necessary corrective actions, thus protecting metal contaminants from reaching the consumer.

MATERIAL DISCRIMINATION X-RAY TECHNOLOGY

Eagle Product Inspection’s Eagle Pack 430 system utilizes advanced dual energy material discrimination x-ray (MDX) technology, allowing food manufacturers to detect and remove contaminants in mid-sized packed products with complex density levels such as pre-packed salads and frozen vegetables. MDX uses two energy spectrums and a dual-layer inspector to filter materials by their chemical composition. This enables food manufacturers to identify contaminants, even on busy x-ray images, ensuring that contaminants are removed before the product reaches the supermarket shelf. The Eagle Pack 240 inspects up to 400 products per minute.

X-RAY CAMERA MODELS

The new Teledyne Shad-o-Box 512 HS and Shad-o-box 1024 HS x-ray detectors feature active areas of  10.4x6.9 cm (768x512 pixels) and 10.4x13.9 cm (768x1024 pixels), respectively. The advanced CMOS image sensing technology enables the delivery of low-dose x-ray images, yet yields higher image quality than a-Si flat panels and image intensifier devices. These high-speed, high-performance x-ray imaging detectors are capable of frame rates up to 30 fps. The camera interface allows easy access to features such as adjusting the frame rate, single and multiple frame acquisitions and control of advanced timing modes.

QUICK-CLEAN INSPECTION MACHINE

Loma Systems’ flagship X5 x-ray system was redesigned to deliver maximum uptime in round-the-clock production environments while identifying and rejecting even the smallest contaminants. The rounded, sloping design ensures that food particles and washdown droplets cannot accumulate on surfaces. Additionally, impermeable seals have been added to the x-ray cabinet to prevent water ingress. At the heart of the X5 x-ray inspection system is an industrial PC with Windows-based operating software that delivers accurate, reliable quality control at line speeds of up to 90 m per minute.

INSPECTION CAMERAS FOR DEMANDING IMAGING APPLICATIONS

Baumer’s new VisiLine IP cameras are specifically developed for particularly demanding industrial environments. With IP 65 and IP 67 protective housings, every sensitive camera component, all the way to the lens, is protected from dust, water spray and temporary immersion. The cameras have an x-coded M12 connector that ensures a reliable connection to the data interface. They achieve frame rates up to 160 fps. Production-integrated color comparison ensures virtually identical color reproduction by every camera in the model series. Plus, the fixed pattern noise correction and high dynamic range eliminates sensor-related structural irregularities and enables acquisition of images with wide differences in scene brightness.
