Study: HPP equipment market worth $500.3M by 2022

The market for high-pressure processing (HPP) equipment is projected to reach a value of $500.3 million by 2022, at a CAGR of 11.26% from 2016, according to the report, "High Pressure Processing Equipment Market by Orientation Type (Horizontal and Vertical), Vessel Volume, Application (Fruits & Vegetables, Meat, Juice & Beverages, Seafood), End User Category, and Region - Global Forecast to 2022," published by MarketsandMarkets, New York.

The market is driven by factors such as increasing consumption of packaged foods, growing ready-to-cook meat production, government assistance toward developing food technologies and widening applicability of HPP equipment.

The horizontal segment is the fastest-growing orientation type segment in this market due to the rise in demand for such equipment to process packaged food products. Horizontal HPP equipment delivers advantages such as disassembling, reassembling, easy installation and more throughput capacity. The horizontal equipment is lighter weight, as the weight of the equipment components is distributed along the orientation. Moreover, it requires less maintenance and time for food processing.

Fruits and vegetables accounted for the largest share in the application of HPP equipment in 2015.This segment includes products such as meat, fruits and vegetables, juice and beverages, seafood, dairy products, guacamole and more. This region is also an early adopter of new food processing technologies, including the use of HPP equipment.

The United States dominated the HPP equipment market for fruits and vegetables in North America. And, the North American region overall was the largest market for HPP equipment in 2015. The United States, Canada and Mexico are prominent users of HPP equipment, as this technology is utilized in the packaged food and beverage market to process fruits, vegetables and juices. European manufacturers also preferred HPP preservation technology to preserve food. The market in Spain is highly developed due to the availability of technical expertise and awareness about HPP. Countries in the European region such as the UK, Spain, Germany and Italy have been early adopters of this technology.
