Pentair, Inc., Minneapolis, announced plans to close Urban Organics, the company’s 100% organic aquaponics farm in St. Paul, Minn.
The goal was to help incubate an industry, and Pentair invested in the venture through technological and scientific expertise and financial resources.
“As part of our innovative culture, Pentair has several areas where we explore new ventures such as Urban Organics,” Pentair said in a statement. “Through our collaboration, Pentair and Urban Organics made advancements in commercial aquaponics technology while also helping to further develop the operational model. Pentair remains committed to trying new ventures with our products and services. We believe there is a long-term strategy for aquaponics in urban areas, however the realization of the business model did not meet our expectations.”
