At this time last year, we at Refrigerated & Frozen Foods decided to put our annual Foodservice Distributor of the Year Award on hold. The COVID-19 pandemic precipitated unprecedented shutdowns in foodservice—restaurants, hotels, schools, caterers, stadiums, and other volume venues—leaving behind thousands of shuttered businesses. To put it lightly, there was very little to celebrate in foodservice last year.

WHOLLY GUACAMOLE, America's No. 1 refrigerated guacamole made with real ingredients and hand-scooped Hass avocados, are launching a limited-time "Don't Hit Guac Bottom" subscription box just in time for National Guacamole Day (September 16). Designed to equip guacamole fans and enthusiasts in the U.S. with ample supply, the six-month "Don't Hit Guac Bottom" box will feature a combination of different flavor varieties of ready-to-eat WHOLLY GUACAMOLE products per month.

Nature Fresh Farms is expanding its operations in Delta, Ohio, increasing their organic acreage as well as a plans to build a new distribution center. The property expansion will include doubling the greenhouse acreage from the current 45 acres to 90, with the future extension to be dedicated to year-round organics. This new greenhouse allows the company to expand organics program using state of the art tech to grow tomatoes and peppers throughout the year.

Martha Stewart Kitchen (MSK) in conjunction with Marquee Brands and MSK Foods, is expanding the distribution of MSK frozen dishes to over 10,000 retail stores nationwide. The brand launched last December regionally in grocery outlets throughout the Northeast and Midwest, with 24 core products.

Cimcorp has announced its automated fresh food intralogistics solution is up and running in Mercadona’s new Zaragoza distribution center. This is the first of four automated systems the leading Spanish grocery retailer has ordered from Cimcorp, with the remaining three to be installed in new logistics facilities located in San Isidro, Huévar and Sagunto.

Hungry Planet is rapidly expanding its grocery presence throughout the U.S. by offering six varieties of chef-crafted plant-based meats, including chicken, pork, beef and sausage items, at all 362 Sprouts Farmers Market locations across the country.

Fortune Fish & Gourmet, a leading processor, distributor and importer of seafood, meats, and gourmet products, has acquired CCT Logistics, a Theodore, Alabama-based 68,000-square-foot cold storage facility. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

North Carolina Ports has reached an agreement with Cold Summit Development to build a 280,000 square foot multi-suite cold storage facility located on the Ports Raleigh Street property. The facility would offer 40,000 pallet positions and could house a broad range of product categories, including pork, poultry, produce, grocery as well as life sciences at temperatures ranging from negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit to 57 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Sysco has announced a limited-time offer for fresh Summeripe Peaches to its customers. These peaches are grown with sustainable farming in mind and have been perfected through an innovative all-natural ripening process to ensure they are perfectly ready to eat when they are delivered to customers.

Norseland will market and distribute a new range of premium Irish cheddar cheeses under the Pastureland brand in the U.S. The Pastureland range will capitalize on the growing consumer awareness around health and nutritional benefits of naturally produced dairy products. The range will be certified to the prestigious Bord Bia Grass Fed standard and will be the first dairy product to feature the Grass Fed logo on its packaging.
