Smithfield Foods Aims to be Carbon Negative by 2030

Smithfield Foods became the first major protein company to commit to becoming carbon negative in all company-owned operations in the United States by 2030. A leader in sustainability for more than two decades, the company will go beyond carbon neutrality to effectively remove more carbon from the atmosphere than it emits. It will achieve this goal without purchasing carbon credits to offset emissions.

Foster Farms Closes California Poultry Plant Until September 7 Due to COVID-19 Concerns

The company's Livingston Poultry Complex has had 392 positive coronavirus cases and eight employee deaths related to the pandemic.

Foster Farms will close the main Livingston processing plant on Tuesday evening, September 1 and not resume operations until Monday evening, September 7.  During this downtime, the company will complete two rounds of deep cleaning and two rounds of COVID-19 testing covering all 1,400 plant employees. The testing program will ensure that all workers first reentering the plant on September 7 will be free of COVID-19.
