Tofurky, a leading independent producer of plant-based proteins in the U.S., is setting aside self-interest to call on consumers to join in the battle against climate change. For the first time, a brand is creating billboards at shelf level, dedicating its packaging to advocacy with the goal of inspiring widespread consumer action.

Grocery retailer and distributor SpartanNash announced plans to open its first SpartanNash Micro-Fulfillment Center, located at 5199 68th St. SE in Caledonia, Michigan. The 55,000-square-foot facility will hold 16,000 products and pick and pack Fast Lane orders for 24 Ada Fresh Market, D&W Fresh Market, Family Fare and Forest Hills Foods stores throughout West Michigan, primarily in the Grand Rapids and Holland area.

Giant Food announces that individuals and families using SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits now have the option to pay with an EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card when placing online orders for Giant Pickup and Giant Delivers throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware.

The Trucking Association Executives Council last night recognized ATRI Senior Vice President Dan Murray with the prestigious J.R. “Bob” Halladay Award.  Presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to assist and support the work of the 50 state trucking associations that comprise the ATA Federation, the Halladay Award is only awarded when a TAEC region hosting the annual meeting deems an individual worthy of recognition.

The brand has expanded rapidly in the U.S. since its initial launch less than a year ago, signaling significant retailer and consumer appetite for a sustainable, plant-based milk that tastes like cow’s milk. NotMilk is currently available in 3,000 stores nationwide, and is aiming for distribution to 8,000 outlets by the end of 2021.

Lakeside Foods, a leading frozen and canned food products company, is updating its logo to a more modern style to reflect its recent growth and innovation while celebrating its rich heritage as a 134-year-old company. The new logo, dubbed the Lakeside Foods family seal, includes an image evoking the sun, lake and fields; a bold, strong font; dark navy color representing its company values of stability and trust; and an inset “EST 1887” illustrating its roots as a pea packing company in Manitowoc in 1887.

Smithfield Foods announced it has appointed Shane Smith, a two-decade veteran of the company and, most recently, its chief strategy officer, as president and chief executive officer, effective immediately. Mr. Smith will succeed Dennis Organ, who is stepping down for personal reasons.

Hood, the leading dairy brand in New England, has teamed up with Boston-based brand, Wahlburgers, to celebrate National Ice Cream Month and Ice Cream Sandwich Day this summer. Throughout National Ice Cream Month in July, customers who dine in and purchase a Wahlburgers kids’ meal will receive a free Hood Birthday Cake Mini Ice Cream Sandwich.
