PACT, creator of packaging and crating technologies, has joined the Council on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles (COSTHA), a not-for-profit industry association devoted to promoting dangerous goods transportation compliance both domestically and abroad. PACT’s acceptance to the organization comes following the successful launch of its Thermo Shield, a paper-based, fire-resistant shipping wrap designed to prevent catastrophes caused by battery explosions during transport.

Nature Fresh Farms continue their sustainable initiatives by releasing a new, 100% home compostable wrap for their Long English Cucumbers, a first in the North American market. An alternative to traditional polyethylene plastic, this film is an environmentally friendly compostable wrap that breaks down in a household compost without leaving behind microplastics.

The line, which includes vegetarian and vegan options, has been one of the most highly requested items by American Flatbread consumers. New England’s Oakhurst Dairy has released a new, limited-edition flavor to celebrate this fall: Maple Milk. Oakhurst’s new Maple Milk is made with 100% pure maple syrup that Oakhurst is sourcing locally from Bascom Family Farms of New Hampshire, which is a leading independent supplier of pure maple syrup. Bascom Family Farms sources from not only its own taps, but also small family farms in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Premium poultry producer Bell & Evans began construction on a new 411,500-square-foot, Organic-Certified Chicken harvesting facility in Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania. The first precast walls were placed in July, and the facility will be operational by late 2021. The project will cost the company approximately $330 million and double its current production capacity.

A team of Mountaire employees helped people in the Lake Charles, Louisiana, area hard hit recently by Hurricane Laura. The company sent 40,000 pounds of chicken to assist Operation BBQ Relief, a non-profit group of competitive barbecue chefs that deploy to disaster areas to provide hot meals.

Donnie King has been named president of Tyson Foods’ poultry business. King has over 35 years of experience working in the poultry business, both domestically and globally. He will once again lead the company’s chicken unit, guiding and mentoring members of its leadership team, including Chad Martin, who will take on the new role of chief operating officer of poultry.  

Smithfield Foods became the first major protein company to commit to becoming carbon negative in all company-owned operations in the United States by 2030. A leader in sustainability for more than two decades, the company will go beyond carbon neutrality to effectively remove more carbon from the atmosphere than it emits. It will achieve this goal without purchasing carbon credits to offset emissions.
