New meat, poultry and seafood products for 2020
HALAL-CERTIFIED FROZEN CHICKEN OFFERINGS
Wayne Farms partnered with Crescent Foods to expand its Halal-compliant frozen chicken product offerings for foodservice, deli, retail and club customers. The Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts entail young, tender frozen chicken sold in 5-pound resealable gusseted bags. The Fully Cooked, Crescent-Shaped Chicken Nuggets consist of 100% all-white meat, and come in a 3-pound resealable gusseted bag. Par-Fried Breaded Chicken Tenders are 100% all whole-muscle white meat, sold in 3-pound resealable gusseted bags. Par-Fried Breaded Chicken Chunks are also 100% all whole-muscle white meat, and come in 3-pound resealable gusseted bags. These offerings are available in Costco stores in the Midwest and East Coast.
GRASS-FED LAMB, BEEF, VENISON
Silver Fern Farms entered the U.S. retail market with grass-fed lamb, beef and venison products sold in 14 Fairway Market stores across the Tri-State region. The line consists of premium ground beef, lamb in medallions, venison, steaks and premium ground versions in medallions and premium ground options. This line is also 100% grass-fed, 100% pasture-raised, with no antibiotics ever, no added hormones ever and no feedlots at any time in their life. The products also feature a QR code-enabled, on-pack product traceability system.
Zatarain’s introduced Zatarain’s Andouille and Cajun Smoked Sausages. Zatarain’s smoked sausages are 100% pork, and contain no artificial colors, flavors, byproducts or MSG.
SEASONED SHRIMP MEAL SOLUTION
Pacific Seafood launched a new value-added line of frozen seasoned shrimp. Available in Scampi and Honey Jalapeño, the shrimp is dry rubbed with herbs and spices instead of being marinated in a heavy sauce. The shrimp is a 31-40 count that is peeled and deveined, with the tail removed. This versatile meal solution lends itself to sautéing, broiling or grilling, can be added to rice, pasta, stir-fries and salads or prepared as an appetizer with dipping sauce. It comes in 16-ounce bags.
Bell & Evans launched a line of uncooked, frozen chicken meatballs made from a blend of dark meat chicken and skin. The Parmesan Breaded Chicken Meatballs contain a blend of mozzarella cheese, garlic and Italian seasonings with a light Parmesan breading. The Buffalo Seasoned Chicken Meatballs deliver a mild-to-medium heat and are gluten free. And, the Chicken Meatballs contain a blend of high-quality organic seasonings.
PREMIUM SAUSAGE, BACON
Meyer Natural Foods launched a premium sausage and bacon line under its Meyer Heritage Duroc Pork brand. Pork used in the sausage and bacon is 100% all natural, crate free and vegetarian fed without the use of antibiotics or added hormones. The bacon line entails Sugar Added Applewood Smoked Uncured Bacon, Hickory Smoked Uncured Bacon and Peppered Uncured Bacon, while the sausage line comes in Traditional Pork Breakfast Links, Maple Pork Breakfast Links, Mild Pork Italian Sausage Links, Spicy Pork Italian Sausage Links, Mild Ground Pork Italian Sausage, Traditional Ground Pork Sausage and Traditional Pork. The new sausage and bacon offerings are available in both retail and service counter formats.
Maple Leaf Farms launched two new fully cooked sausage products for foodservice operators. The Duck Bratwurst and Smoked Duck Sausages boast less fat and calories than comparable pork sausages. Each sausage comes in 6-pound cases with eight 4-link packages. The products come frozen for convenience. Duck sausages can be grilled, sautéed or steamed.
CHARCUTERIE TASTING BOARD
Columbus Craft Meats launched its Columbus Charcuterie Tasting Board, which contains premium ingredients on a wood-printed board. The selection entails Columbus Italian dry salami and Columbus Calabrese salami plus specially selected aged white cheddar cheese, premium chocolate-covered cranberries, Castelvetrano olives and La Panzanella multigrain crackers. The Columbus Charcuterie Tasting Board is available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $13.99.
VEGETARIAN CORNED BEEF
Mrs. Goldfarb’s Unreal Deli debuted vegetarian corned beef. As seen on Shark Tank, this corned beef is 100% plant-based, animal-free, protein-packed and low-carb, and is made from beets, chickpeas, tomatoes and more.
Godshall’s Quality Meats announced sugar-free bacon. Available in pork bacon, beef bacon and turkey bacon, the line is made without added sugar and carbs, yet delivers a full, real wood smoked taste. The pork and beef bacons are prepared and smoked from traditional cuts, while the real dark meat blend boasts 65% less fat than pork bacon. The sugar-free line is also uncured and all-natural, containing only sea salt and celery powder.
CURED MEATS ASSORTMENT
Hans Kupfer & Sohn GmbH & Co. introduced its large charcuterie (cured meats) assortment to the U.S. market. Products include Bockwurst, baked ham, Westphalian salami and snack salamis. Hans Kupfer uses only the finest ingredients, carefully smoked over pine tree chips.
