ICS Logistics eyes northwest Indiana for new warehouse
Northwest Indiana media say port logistics and maritime services provider ICS Logistics, Jacksonville, Fla., is considering LaPorte, Ind., as the possible location for a new $50 million, 500,000-square-foot refrigerated and frozen warehouse.
Media first noted the project in mid-September. Earlier this month, Indiana Economic Digest said LaPorte County commissioners approved an economic development plan for the project and a "resolution of understanding." The memorandum of understanding outlines the responsibilities of each of the parties in the project and agrees them to work together on a development agreement.
Officials said the facility would employ as many as 135 people. The site also involves an intermodal connection with rail provider CSX Transportation.
ICS operates marine-based storage terminals and stevedoring services in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana.
Project officials said ICS hopes to bring produce and frozen food in by rail and then transfer it to semi-trailers for Midwest distribution.
