Food waste is so problematic that it initiated a statement from agriculture secretary Tom Vilasick and EPA deputy administrator Stan Meiburg in 2015 to announce the nation’s first-ever national food loss and waste goal, calling for a 50% reduction by 2030 as an initiative for governments, charitable/faith-based organizations and the private sector.
This is said to be first-ever set of global definitions and reporting requirements for companies to measure, report on and manage food loss and waste.

A partnership of leading international organizations, launched the Food Loss and Waste Accounting and Reporting Standard (FLW Standard), what is said to be the first-ever set of global definitions and reporting requirements for companies, countries and others to consistently and credibly measure, report on and manage food loss and waste.
Thirty CEOs, government ministers, global institution executives and civil society leaders joined together to launch Champions 12.3, a new effort created to globally inspire ambition and mobilize action to reduce food loss and waste.
