As healthcare workers across the country continue to face shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE), Smithfield Foods is supporting local communities by donating excess face shields to healthcare workers at nursing homes and local hospitals as part of their COVID-19 relief efforts.
John Soules Foods donated 168,000 pounds of prepared chicken and beef products to the East Texas Food Bank in its hometown of Tyler, Texas, near Dallas, and an additional 37,400 pounds to the Montgomery County Food Bank in Conroe, Texas, near Houston.
Monmouth plant produces 3% of fresh pork products in the U.S. including bacon.

Smithfield Foods will suspend operations at its Monmouth, Illinois, facility beginning next week and until further notice after a small portion of its 1,700 employees tested positive for COVID-19. The Monmouth plant represents approximately 3% of U.S. fresh pork supplies and also produces bacon. Employees will be paid during the closure.
West Liberty, Iowa-based West Liberty Foods reported today that two additional team members at its West Liberty, Iowa facility have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of positive cases at the facility to three. To the company’s knowledge, no team members working at any other West Liberty Foods location have tested positive for COVID-19.
Tyson Foods will pay approximately $60 million in “thank you” bonuses to 116,000 frontline workers and Tyson truckers in the U.S. who support the company’s operations every day to provide food during the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible team members will receive a $500 bonus, payable during the first week of July. The bonuses are in addition to other company-announced efforts to support workers, plant communities and livestock producers during the global pandemic.
J&B Group has owned the Pipestone meat processing plant for the past 12 years.

J&B Group, Inc. announced plans to sell its Pipestone, Minn., manufacturing plant in order to consolidate operations by moving the Pipestone production to its St. Michael, Minn., headquarters facility, effective Nov. 22.
This new 7,500-square-meter meat processing plant will foster increased productivity of quality food items made for the restaurant and foodservice sector, including beef, chicken and fish products.
