The Tippmann Group, Fort Wayne, Ind., said it completed a 160,000-square-foot distribution center attached to Agro Farma's Chobani Greek yogurt plant in New Berlin, N.Y. Executive Vice President Steve Tippmann noted that the project features an elevated conveyor bridge -- crossing over a county road -- to connect the plant and new distribution center. The DC features a 13,000-square-foot refrigerated dock for shipping and receiving, 18 dock doors and dry and cooler storage ranging from 35F to 65F.
"Agro Farma has seen exponential growth over the past few years and their existing production facility had virtually no storage/distribution space," said Tippmann. "... [They] recognized a need to expand and simplify their distribution structure. While discussing the project with Tippmann Group, they came to the conclusion that the most cost efficient form of distribution would be to have a DC attached to their plant."
United States Cold Storage (USCS), Voorhees, N.J., said it hired David Carr as Midwest regional sales manager. Carr most recently was director of business development for Lunch at Hand, a Chicagoland foodservice distributor. Officials said Carr will work with Mike Radnoti, USCS’ vice president of national sales, Midwest / Northeast.
“David will add another level of customer development to our efforts in the Midwest,” said Jerome Scherer, USCS vice president of national sales and marketing. “He’s an excellent communicator and brings a lot of sales experience to our team."
Bland Distribution Services said it has expanded its Donna, Texas, distribution center in south Texas' Rio Grande Valley. Bland offers frozen, refrigerated and dry storage and packing services.
