Eriez, Pa., showcased its Eriez 76 Series Vibratory Feeder, which supports trays up to approximately 200 pounds and comes in most common voltages. Large bucket elevators require high-capacity feeders with long tray overhangs to reach the in-feed section of the elevators. The Eriez 76 Series Vibratory Feeder can easily handle larger trays with multiple features such as screens, covers, inlet spouts and downspouts with a single compact drive unit required by bulk bag dischargers, making it well suited for bulk bag unloading. For scale feeding, it requires wider, longer trays to reach to the center of radial combination scales.
Eriez ProGrade tubes, grates and liquid line traps are now available with new and improved Xtreme RE7 Rare Earth Tube Circuit, which proved to be 13-40% stronger than other magnets on the market in head-to-head pull tests. Eriez ProGrade Xtreme Rare Earth magnetic separators remove weakly magnetic fine ferrous contamination to ensure ultimate product purity and equipment protection.

The Eriez Rare Earth magnetic separator powered by Xtreme RE7 alongside an Xtreme Metal Detector Enhanced Platform (EP) is the ideal solution for the most difficult food/sanitary industry applications. Eriez’ new and improved Xtreme RE7 magnet circuit has proven to be 13-40% stronger than other magnets in head-to-head pull tests. Glue Dots, Germantown, Wis., showcased its pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) and application equipment, designed for manufacturers and contract packagers facing hot glue meltdowns.
Dispenser Boxes, for example, come in up to 8,000 adhesive patterns, and are designed for tabletop use as well as portability and easy storage.
The lightweight, ergonomically designed Dot Shot Pro is engineered for repetitive use, and accommodates standard, custom and the continuous coverage Stitch and MatrX Glue Dots patterns.
The smaller QuikDot Pro was designed to seamlessly and efficiently seal lightweight chipboard and corrugate packaging.
For larger operations such as contract packaging, Glue Dots offers the semi-automated EconoDot and AutoDot Pro. Both compact benchtop dispensers use a photo-sensing eye to automatically advance the adhesive pattern at the pace of the user, with none of the waste, mess or lost time associated with hot glue.
The EconoDot, designed for both short and long-term projects, holds up to 8,000 adhesives, and the AutoDot accommodates up to 4,000 adhesive patterns, and its adjustable settings allow users to apply single or multiple adhesives at once.
The fully automated SD-900 applicator seamlessly integrates into production lines, capable of running at product speeds of up 90 feet per minute, with up to a 3/32-inch accuracy. Designed for both continuous or intermittent applications, the SD-900 also eliminates the burn risks of hot melt systems.

Acquire Automation, Inc., Fishers, Ind., exhibited five of the company’s latest products from its Q Series.
For example, LabelQ for Inline Inspection of Oriented Product inspects applied bottle labels for correctness, skew, code, presence and more, while LabelQ for Print & Reconciliation simplifies label, printing, inspection and accountability by integrating three critical operations into one system.
Acquire’s latest software, TrackQ, reduces risk of mix-up, automates data entry and saves time in batch style manufacturing both within regulated assembly environments and general manufacturing. TrackQ automates and databases the assembly process by associating work order steps with the actual work being performed, alerting the operator at the point of entry if any mix-up is present and updating the customers’ ERP as to the location and status of the batch.
New to the portfolio is CapQ, which features 360-degree inspection of beverage and consumer good containers. CapQ integrates artificial intelligence to the cap inspection process, eliminating false rejects.
Acquire’s North American partner, One Box Vision, demonstrated the new WebQ system, a complete inline quality inspection solution designed for films, sheets, bags or flexible media. The system delivers 100% inspection and detection of gels, carbons, holes, contamination and wrinkles in the media, while ignoring regions of the web not applicable for inspection.

The DM0113 and the DM0138 drum motors offer stronger shafts and ball bearings and a stable design, which allows high torques to be transferred with low levels of operating noise. All the drum motors in the new generation comply with IP69K requirements.
Also, Interroll invested in new polyureethane coating equipment for producing premium hygienic shells for driving homogenous belts.
Also, the modular conveyor platform (MCP) demonstrated the ease of use and flexibility of automatic order-picking systems. The MCP is controlled by Interroll MultiControl, the new network interface card for PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT.
SPECIALTY LUBRICANT SOLUTIONS
Klüber Lubrication, Londonderry, N.H., displayed a host of specialty solutions for the food processing industry.
Klüberplus C2 PM2 Ultra Dry is a plastic conveyor belt lubricant for the beverage and food processing industry. This food-grade lubricant can increase packaging line efficiency by 1-5%, and its super-lubricity increases line speed without risking belt stability. Its dripless dry formulation ensures that work surfaces don’t get wet and slippery. Because it accumulates less residue and has a built-in cleaning agent, it reduces the risk of bacteria growth and the need for cleaning.
Klüberfood NH1 74-401 is a synthetic long-life, high-temperature grease for the food pharmaceutical industry that uses a unique FDA-approved urea thickener. Klüberfood NH1 74-401 is suitable for long lubrication intervals in a large variety of applications. This high-temperature grease provides a wide service temperature range and can be applied in rolling bearings up to 160°C and even up to 180°C (short term) with appropriate re-lubrication intervals. Applications include drive roller bearings in ovens and proofers, conveyors and motor bearings, roller bearings in packaging and labeling machines, camshafts, linear guides and with sliding movements.
Gear Klüberoil 4 UH1 N series and Klübersynth UH1 6 series are synthetic high-performance gear and multi-purpose oils. Klüberoil 4 UH1 N is designed for the lubrication of spur, bevel and worm gears subject to high loads, bearings, spindles and joints as well as lifting, drive and transport chains. Meanwhile, Klübersynth UH1 6 is designed for the lubrication of worm gears with steel/bronze pairings and is also used for highly loaded spur, bevel and planetary gears, rolling and plain bearings, all types of toothed couplings, especially when exposed to high temperatures and lifting, drive and transport chains.
Klübermatic dispensers automatically lubricate equipment and components. Based on electro-mechanical or electro-chemical technology, these “intelligent packages” automatically lubricate equipment and components in customized monthly lubrication intervals. They can be fitted with standard, long-term or extreme-pressure greases, standard or high-temperature chain oils or special food-grade greases or oils as well as some specially requested lubricants in high-order volumes.
RETORT BASKET TRACKING SYSTEM
Allpax, a Covington, La.-based product brand of ProMach, showcased AllTrax, its retort basket tracking system that’s integrated with the company’s patent-pending telescoping loader. Together, it provides a seamless solution for lowering the risk of product recalls and improving worker safety.
With AllTrax, any deviation from the food product’s proscribed course from basket loading to unloading creates an alarm condition and halts a basket’s progress until the fault is cleared by authorized personnel. AllTrax is available for automated and non-automated basket handling, and offers multiple benefits such as stainless-steel/laser-etched barcode tags.
The patent-pending Allpax telescoping retort loader automatically moves retort baskets into and out of retorts. The loader reduces risk of injury by eliminating the need for workers to maneuver retort baskets inside a sterilization vessel. The telescoping loader can be used on new retorts or retrofitted to existing horizontal retorts regardless of manufacturer. Loaders are compatible with either 1- or 2-door configurations and can be used on any length retort. These small footprint devices are ideal for space-constrained operations.
E-COMMERCE BAGGER & LABELER
At up to 30 packages per minute, the new 301 E-commerce Bagger/Labeler from Rennco, a Homer, Mich.-based product brand of ProMach, provides fulfillment locations with an automated process for fast packing of mixed products going to a single address.
The 301 E-commerce Bagger/Labeler eliminates the need for employees to handle bags or labels. As a tote arrives at the packing station where the bagger/labeler is located, its barcode is scanned. Address data is then downloaded to the 301’s integrated label printer applicator. The employee transfers the products from the tote to the 301 and the automation does the rest.
With a footprint of less than 9 square feet, distribution centers can use these compact caster-mounted machines to increase the number of lines in their shipping facilities.
The 301 E-commerce Bagger/Labeler utilizes an ID Technology Model 252 label printer applicator, which features a touch-screen user interface for easy programming, a rewind motor “module” that is hot swappable, a revolutionary plasma-coated air assist tube that eliminates label sticking and a service position tamp module.

For instance, the CpONE IM Case Packer is a less-confined machine with fewer parts and simple changeover.
The Axiom IM Case & Tray Packer combines the ultimate in high-speed performance with gentle product handling in a compact package. This machine delivers smooth performance during case loading while maintaining accurate product control. It also accommodates a wide variety of pack patterns and is capable of running wraparound, knockdown and trays.
The TriVex SL is a versatile a retail-ready case packer for pouches and bags. It features a product infeed, collation and loading in one dual robotic solution. It’s also applicable for vertical display cases with 1-2 product facings and flat pack configurations with 2-3 products per layer.
The Vectra Cartoner accommodates varied size ranges and pack patterns for frozen goods, chilled and dry goods food applications. Its updated design provides improved carton setup and smaller width with generous accessibility for sanitary applications. Other features include absolute servo-driven product control from the infeed to the discharge, and removable carton forming guide ensures consistent carton picks.
The Contour SPS-105 Shrink Packer offers film-only, pad, u-board and tray solutions for cans, bottles, cartons and more. It boasts single stream and multi-stream capabilities, and comes equipped with a side-mounted film stand.

BAG PACKAGING SYSTEMS FOR LARGE BAG APPLICATIONS
Automated Packaging Systems, Streetsboro, Ohio, introduced two new Autobag bag packaging systems with advanced engineering technology for flexibility and efficiency in large bag applications. The Autobag 600 is a semi-automatic filling and sealing machine designed for packaging large products at speeds up to 65 bags per minute. Its engineering design eliminated the need for light curtains or double-palm switches, while the adjustable 6-inch pass-through enables faster, more efficient cycle times. The Autobag 650 is the same wide bagging system with a fully-integrated next-bag-out printer that eliminates the need for a separate labeling operation. The Autobag 650 prints and packs at speeds up to 40 bags per minute. These baggers include an AutoTouch Control Screen that provides access to job storage and recall, on-board diagnostics and productivity monitoring. Both can be networked for full pack station integration and central monitoring, and easily integrate with Autobag and third-party equipment for fully automatic bag packaging operations. Plus, they both accommodate a range of Autobag bags-on-a-roll and bags-in-a-box material up to 16 inches wide by 27 inches long.
Automated Packaging Systems also debuted two new printers to complement its new line of Autobag baggers. The new AutoLabel 500 and AutoLabel 600 Thermal Transfer Printers are specifically designed for fast and accurate inline printing. AutoLabel printers apply labels up to 4 inches wide by 20 inches long directly on the bag. They support both linear and 2D barcodes in a wide range of fonts and symbols for maximum flexibility in product identification, tracking and compliance labeling. Plus, it offers resolution options up to 406 dpi for high-quality graphics, text and barcodes.
And, the new AirPouch FastWrap cushioning wrap is ideal for large products shipping in large boxes, where both protection and void-fill is important. AirPouch FastWrap features a patented honeycomb pattern that supports multi-directional wrapping for optimal protection. The 1.25-inch high loft coupled with the 24-inch width makes wrapping large products easier while using less material. Perforations placed every 6.75 inches enable packers to use just the right amount of product to avoid waste. The new material is available in clear LLDPE, as well as EarthAware recycled and biodegradable blends.

OPTIMIZING END-OF-LINE PACKAGING OPERATIONS
Signode Industrial Group, Glenview, Ill., showcased its broad spectrum of consumables, tools, software and equipment to optimize end-of-line packaging operations and protect product in transit.
For instance, the H. BÖHL orbital stretch wrapper is used to secure products to trays, while the Loveshaw Little David Case Sealer SP-304 ensures proper closure and sealing of the protective box. The combined system improves product integrity and further reduces customer dunnage, packaging waste and damage in transit.
The Loveshaw LDX RTB high-performance case sealer is capable of processing void-filled and overstuffed cases at high speeds. The machine features case-hardened steel “v” rollers and non-mechanical side rail actuation that ensures long-term performance and durability.
Signode also featured protective packaging solutions like Multi-Wall pre-formed packaging pads, Signode strapping equipment, Reddi-Crate laminated paperboard packaging to replace wooden crates and the Josef Kihlberg line of professional strapping products.
The newly released Signode BXT3 series consist of battery-powered combination tools for plastic strapping. The tools’ variable tension speed gives the operator complete control of the speed applied to the strap. The series features real-time indication of tension force, increasing the reliability of the process and reducing operating errors.
The Signode GripPack Hand Tools, including GripPack Sealer and GripPack Tensioner, are said to be the world’s first battery powered combination tools for steel tube and pipe strapping. Designed without the need for air hoses or compressors, the GripPack Sealer and GripPack Tensioner allow for more portability and produce less noise.
Ensuring proper pallet load containment, the Octopus Compact 20 TSI automatic rotary ring stretch wrapper is suitable for a variety of applications and environments.
And, the high-speed Lachenmeier brand of stretch hood machines are ideal for bagged products on pallets and units needing waterproof protection for both vertical and horizontal load containment. Meanwhile, the GaleWrap Oriented Hand Film is a unique stretch wrap solution that incorporates a revolutionary Tug n’ Snug feature and hemmed edges, helping users wrap loads faster while simultaneously optimizing film use and minimizing waste.
The SB Series provides a strong cornerboard application engineered with an innovative double-wrap construction. Made from layers of 100% recycled paper, the boards are formed with a water-based adhesive and then coated with biodegradable and water-resistant coatings. And, Lock N’ Pop and Signode MHC head pallet stabilizing adhesives demonstrated the ability to reduce maintenance and increase uptime thanks to its modular head design.

Videojet Technologies, Wooddale, Ill., highlighted a host of solutions, including the new VideojetConnect Packaging Line Visibility and Productivity Suite, which allows manufacturers to leverage their own Videojet equipment to gain visibility into packaging line operations. Designed to harness the data inherent in production, the suite is for use at the factory level, and tracks finished goods, packaging line production rates, line stops and other operations data.
The new Videojet 1580 CIJ printer features SmartCell components that are easy-to-replace within minutes, helping to ensure maximum line productivity with no additional downtime. The Videojet SIMPLICiTY user interface streamlines and minimizes operator interactions to help eliminate potential user errors. The 1580 also features Videojet OPTIMiZE software, which provides on-screen alerts as well as expert diagnostics, analytics and guides to enhance everyday printer performance.
The high-powered CO2 Videojet 3640 60-Watt Laser Marking System is engineered to process complex codes at high speeds and features what is said to be the industry's widest marking window. With virtually no font, code or graphic restrictions, the Videojet 3640 meets the demand for marking at line speeds up to 900 meters per minute, depending on the application. The wide marking window covers up to 600mm, meaning a variety of wide web applications that previously would have required two lasers can be addressed with one laser.
The Videojet DataFlex 6530 and 6330 TTO printers feature the revolutionary iAssure technology, what is dubbed as an industry-first, integrated code assurance system that automatically checks every print for alphanumeric print defects. The modular design gives users the flexibility to choose how to integrate the printer into their production line, and for those users that require fewer components to be exposed in a production environment, both the 6530 and 6330 can also be controlled away from the line through their web interfaces.
The Videojet 1860 continuous inkjet (CIJ) printer utilizes innovative predictive capabilities, including what is said to be an industry-first ink build-up sensor that provides up to eight hours of advanced notice of common potential fault conditions that can impact OEE and uptime. Complete with optional IP66 protection and hygienic design, the 1860 is ideal for harsh environments, including caustic washdown.
New are Videojet 8520 and Wolke m610 thermal inkjet (TIJ) printers are high-resolution printers that use HP technology and are engineered to meet complex coding requirements, including remote printer control.
Also showcased was the Videojet 7610 100-watt fiber laser marking system, which applies high-contrast marks at ultra-fast speeds on hard plastics, metals and other products and marks up to 600 meters per minute. The Videojet 7320 20-watt fiber laser marking system is a compact, versatile solid-state marking system available for marking on metal, plastic and other hard-to-mark materials.
Videojet also demonstrated its VideojetConnect Remote Service, an intelligent, cloud-based solution that helps customers optimize printer performance by enabling remote diagnosis and repair by customers’ in-house experts. The solution sends real-time email alerts of printer needs and generates performance dashboards to provide enhanced control and visibility of printer operations.

HORIZONTAL MOTION CONVEYOR
Precision Food Innovations (PFI), a newly developed company based in Pella, Iowa, introduced PURmotion, a new horizontal motion conveyor designed to meet the highest sanitary standards.
With an open design, solid structural framing and no hollow tubing, there is virtually no place for bacteria and other germs to hide. Every part of the equipment has easy accessibility for sanitation cleaning.
The critical components of the PURmotion are IP69K rated, making it able to withstand the close-range, high-pressure, high-temperature spray downs necessary to completely sanitize equipment.
PURmotion offers a highly sanitary product that is extremely easy to clean and efficient in operation, with immediate reversing motion to washdown without removal of side panels. The quiet servo-driven motor provides complete control and flexibility without disrupting adjacent operations.

Yale Materials Handling Corp., Greenville, N.C., highlighted the latest addition to its robotic lift truck lineup, the Yale MC10-15 counterbalanced stacker Driven by Balyo. The counterbalanced stacker model is capable of point-to-point horizontal transportation and vertical movement, which allows it to autonomously retrieve or deposit pallets from elevated spaces.
Yale also displayed the Yale MO70T tow tractor and MPE080-VG end rider models under the Balyo architecture, which offers the flexibility to manage a single truck or an entire fleet. The infrastructure-free navigation technology maps existing structural features to self-locate and navigate, without requiring extra infrastructure like tape, wires or magnets for guidance.

FLEXPETTM F HPF is a biaxially oriented nylon replacement (BON) film made with a newly developed patented proprietary technology that offers thermoforming performance, high-puncture resistance and flexural fatigue strength.
FLEXMETPROTECTTM F-HBP-M is an aluminum foil replacement metallized high-barrier BOPET film with a superior gas barrier that offers high moisture and oxygen barrier for virtually all applications. Its high optical density is specifically suitable for most flex pack product offerings, including shipping moisture-sensitive items in multi-layered pouches. INDUSTRY 4.0 SOLUTIONS FOR HANDLING TECHNOLOGY
Festo, Islandia, N.Y., introduced the new CPX-E control platform for handling technology. The CPX-E’s optimized handling technology enables packaging machine OEMs to reduce motion handling design time, lower acquisition costs, speed up assembly, improve performance and bring new machines to market faster. To Illustrate the advantages of the CPX-E control platform’s connectivity, Festo showcased a flow wrapper demonstration where Festo plug-and-play sensors, image processing systems, including the new SBPB camera, electric servos and actuators handle 100% of the motion functions comprised of CAM control, tension control, temperature control and printing mark control for the conveyor belt, feeder, foil transport, pusher, sealer and cutter. The CPX-E is suitable for all major PLC and industrial computer master control systems.
Attendees virtually interacted with the Motion Terminal, what is said to be the world’s first intelligent pneumatic system that can potentially replace up to 50 different components through the download of various combinations of cloud-based apps. Through augmented reality, users can virtually download apps to create functionalities such as monitoring compressed air flow to detect leaks, proportional directional control, proportional pressure regulations, pre-setting travel time and more. The Motion Terminal enables small lot size manufacturing, adaptability to shorter product life cycles, scalability, resiliency, energy conservation and cloud-based predictive analytics.

The Spider 300v from BluePrint Automation, South Chesterfield, Va., is a two-robot case loading system that allows processors and co-packers to pack both vertical and horizontal on the same line at the same time.
Built for high-speed packing and quick changeover between recipes, the Spider 300v is capable of handling standard regular slotted carton cases, 3-sided displays and a wide range of other secondary containers.
The Spider 300v features a new standard modular frame designed to significantly minimize footprint of the line by eliminating bulky external electrical cabinets.
